Raviv Markovitz, 28, is an acoustic and electric bassist based in New York who has quickly become one of the most sought-after bassists on the New York jazz scene. Raviv won 3rd place in the 2011 International Society of Bassists Jazz Bass Competition and was selected as 1 of 15 semifinalists worldwide for the 2009 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Bass Competition. Raviv has served on the faculty of Swing Central Jazz in Savannah, GA under the direction of Marcus Roberts, the Stanford Jazz Workshop through the SJW Mentor Fellowship Program, the Calhoun Summer Jazz Workshop in New York City, taught extensively through Jazz at Lincoln Center’s “Jazz for Young People” program, and conducted numerous clinics around the world. Raviv has performed across the United States and internationally throughout Europe, Central America, and Asia, at venues ranging from the Blue Note in New York City, to the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Mumbai, India, to Porgy & Bess in Vienna, Austria, to the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to Jazz at Lincoln Center Shanghai in Shanghai, China. Raviv has performed with many of jazz’s leading artists, including Joe Lovano, Marcus Roberts, Makoto Ozone, Cassandra Wilson, and Jimmy Heath, among many others, and is an active recording artist, having recorded on over 20 albums to date. Originally from Lexington, Massachusetts, Raviv holds a bachelor's degree from Columbia University in the City of New York.
